You can join in a Holiday Bike-A-Thon to generate power to light the lights at Public Square for the holiday tree ceremony at Public
Square! The tree lighting is scheduled for Saturday November 24th. Beginning in the morning, cyclists will work with the engineers at
GE to turn pedal power to battery power to run the tree lights for the first 100 minutes of the Holiday Festival. The bike-a-thon will be held on the Southwest Quadrant of Public Square, where a platform is set with seven stationary bikes. Cyclists, GE employees and MC2STEM Students will pedal to kinetically power batteries which power the tree. The 100 minutes corresponds to 2013 and the century anniversary of GE, one of the area’s corporate leaders.
To register, email Andrea Timan (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the shift(s) you are able to ride and cell phone number in case they need to contact you that day. Shifts are in 1/2 hour increments from 5:30 AM to 6:00 PM, but many shifts are filling up. If you have family or friends that would like to ride with you, please provide Andrea with their name, email and phone along with shift they will be riding. GE will also have two children’s bikes as well. While the children’s bikes won’t generate power, kids can join in the fun with mom and dad.
