A weekend full of bicycling events

There’s a lot to do on two wheels this weekend. Here’s what’s coming up:

• On Thursday, August 11, Phoenix Coffee is hosting The Bike Biz. The event is billed as the first of a series of monthly discussions about different bicycling topics. This month, Renato Pereria-Castillo from Joy Machines Bike Shop will perform a hands-on demonstration on how to change a flat tire and properly clean a bicycle. Ohio City Whips will also debut a custom bicycle built specifically for Phoenix Coffee. For more information, please click here.

• An informal group bicycle ride in Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn and Brooklyn Centre neighborhoods is scheduled for the evening of Friday, August 12. The ride is somewhat of a tour of both communities, and will end at a neighborhood establishment to allow bicyclists to mix and mingle over food or a beverage. More information is here.

• Slavic Village Development holds Walk+Roll on Saturday, August 13. Among a plethora of fun activities happening in the neighborhood, three miles of roadways will be closed to vehicular traffic for pedestrians and bicyclists to enjoy. Here are the details. New this year is the Village Treasure Trek, which gives bicyclists the opportunity to win prizes simply by exploring neighborhood businesses and points of interest. Information about the Village Treasure Trek is here.

Pedal to the Point is also on Saturday, August 13. This is the 25th year for the event, which aims to raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Cyclists commit to raising a minimum of $250 for the cause and riding at least thirty miles. For more information, please visit the Pedal to the Point website here.

Other upcoming events on the radar include Crank-Set Ride’s 2nd Annual Hot Pants Ride on Saturday, August 20; a bike move slated for Sunday, August 21; Cleveland Critical Mass on Friday, August 25; the second 2 Wheels and Heels women’s group ride on Wednesday, August 31; and the Pedal Republic of Cleveland bike polo tournament and barbeque Labor Day weekend.
